Happy! Happy! Compost
Last Friday, when I bought my tomato and herb plants, I also purchased a large plastic pot and asked the owner of the nursery to drill holes in it for me. On Monday, I picked it up, along with a saucer to use as a lid and a small bag of soil.

I have been feeling supremely guilty about throwing our organic trash in the garbage, and I was seriously excited all weekend to pick up the apartment-sized compost bin. I started it out with some of the soil in the bottom, then added an eggshell from this morning’s breakfast, some beard clippings from Agus, and a bit of newspaper that I shredded. I was SO excited to get this thing going!!
Here’s a basic post on how to get started, and here’s a list of things to go in the bin, though I don’t agree with things like fish and dairy products.
I’m seriously considering getting some Californian red worms to go along with my compost, but I have no clue where to get them in this area. I will definitely post an update on that if I can find them. Worms are the BEST; they do all the composting work for you, like aerating and processing.
