August/February: Think summer fruit

As I’ve done in previous months, I’m updating with the list of fruits and veggies that appear as seasonable on the organic farm website that I was ordering from in Argentina. I’m going to keep updating with their info until I complete the year. What’s actually available down there appears in bold below. This may, of course, vary from area to area.

At the same time, I’m updating older posts with the current UK availability with fruit and veggies that are available locally in the stores up here. At some point, I hope to have a fairly comprehensive list. I know seasonal availability varies greatly, with some climates having a much wider range of available produce at any given time, but some things are pretty standard.

Fruit: apricots, blackberries, blueberries, boysenberries, cantaloupe, grapes, honeydew, kiwi, peaches, plums, raspberries, strawberries, watermelon

Veggies: corn, cucumbers, eggplant, green beans, herbslettuce, peppers, tomatoes, summer squash, zucchini

Then there are odd, out of season things available such as: apple, cabbage, carrot, chard, onion, orange, pear

Basically, FGF is  all about being alert throughout the week for things that make you smile! And then sharing them with everyone else to make them smile, too! And getting together for a little link love!

Sound good? Then please join us! Start looking for all of the good things you can write about for next week!  Once you start looking for the “good”  you will find it everywhere!

I’m still posting infrequently over here, because I’ve been busy at my new blog. However, the oven tech is fixing my oven as I type this! I can hear him drilling and clanking around in there. Not sure what the problem is, but something is getting done. So if all goes well, I’ll resume baking and can share some recipes here. I can’t wait to stop spending a small fortune on gluten free baked goods for A and get started baking my own things. It’s easy to find gluten- and dairy-free things here, but they usually have sugar. I haven’t found anything that’s gluten-, dairy-, and sugar-free.

This has been an amazing week, with lots of studying and practice coaching sessions. I’m so excited to be learning new things again, especially since I’m studying at my own pace, and not in a formal school setting. And I’m absolutely loving the coaching sessions. I’ve had some amazing ones so far. It’s fabulous.

When was the last time you learned something new? Do you get excited about learning new things?

Happy Friday, and happy weekend!

I’m still posting infrequently over here, because I’ve been busy at my new blog. However, the oven tech is coming next Friday! So if all goes well, I’ll resume baking and can share some recipes here. We did make what may well the the perfect (for us) Caesar salad dressing last night (we even used garlic, the horrors!) so I’ll post that at some point.

For me, it’s all about clarity this week. I have never, ever, ever been so clear about anything. By now, you all know that I’m getting started in life coaching and have a new blog set up. It is such a gift to know exactly what I want to do professionally, and I am so grateful.

Priorities are easy to set now. If it’s not directly related to coaching and learning more about coaching, then it goes to the bottom of the list. And I don’t feel badly if it doesn’t get done, because the coaching stuff was all at the top of the list and I worked on it first.

It’s just all so clear. Love it!

Happy happy Friday!!

Feel Good Friday: All kinds of amazing things this week!

I’m still posting infrequently over here, because I’ve been busy at my new blog. And, I still haven’t bothered to find someone to fix our oven, because I’ve been busy busy busy.

I decided to do a list of five nine, since it’s been so long since I’ve done that (though actually, I’ve never done nine). It used to be my favorite prompt. So here goes!

  1. I got to see a very good friend on Friday who I hadn’t seen in a couple of years, who was in town on a ten hour layover. It was great! We talked about coaching and life and all kinds of things.
  2. I had a great meetup with friends on Monday evening! We had great food and wine and A and I got to see a new part of London that we hadn’t been to before (we don’t get out much). It was a lot of fun.
  3. My goal for this week was to get the new blog started, and I did! With a welcome post and three content posts: How are you doing with your new years resolutions?, 10 easy steps to improve time management and reduce stress, and Easy ways to reduce stress and add more hours to each day.
  4. I ordered some new business cards from Moo, as well as some free ones from Vista, and they both came in!
  5. I had an excellent two days at my free coaching course from The Coaching Academy. I learned a lot of interesting and very useful tools, did a bit of practice coaching, and met a lot of great new people!
  6. On Thursday morning, I had an amazing 6:45 a.m. breakfast with a BNI group. Business Networking International is this amazing group that started in the US where groups of business people meet once a week to give a quick elevator pitch and share referrals. I’ve been told it’s very effective in finding new clients, and wanted to check it out. You can visit twice before deciding whether or not you want to sign up. If you have your own business (of any kind: there were a lawyer and a financial advisor, among others), definitely give it a try. Check the website for a local group and send them an email.
  7. On Thursday afternoon, I had a great phone call with a person from a very reasonably priced coaching diploma program. Today I should receive the application form and then I can sign up!
  8. One of the posts on my new blog was selected for Freshly Pressed, meaning it showed up on the homepage of WordPress.com all day. Due to the eight hour time difference between here and California, it all happened in the afternoon/evening for me. Just before going to the gym, I found two comments on  my brand new blog from readers I didn’t know personally. How did they find my blog? I checked stats, and had 81 page views for that post. I was surprised, and headed out to the gym. On my way back, I had several new comments and blog subscriptions. Arriving home and checking my stats, I saw that I had over 500 views of that post alone. As of writing this, I have 2,085 (and counting) views!
  9. Today I have a “free” day, which I can dedicate to some reading I want to get done, some blog writing, and a trip to the gym!

AND…this weekend I have another free coaching course, plus friends come from Argentina/Italy to visit!

How was your week?

Happy Friday, all! And happy weekend.

Feel Good Friday: Job! (sort of)

I’m still posting infrequently (read: only on Fridays) because of the whole job hunt. Except that this week I had a revelation. A friend from Argentina sent me an email to say that it had randomly occurred to her that I would be great at some kind of consulting to help people. She said that she sees me as someone who has had a lot of experience, in different countries, with lots of knowledge, and though I can’t specialize in every field, I can help people (as I’ve helped her in the past) to achieve a professional goal. She sees me as a kind of mentor, someone who uses creativity and experience to see possibilities that others sometimes can’t see for themselves.

How about that? The funny thing is that I’m always helping others figure out what they want to do, or how to reach their goals, or how to do things they want to do. And then a friend came along and did the same for me, out of the blue!

It was truly a huge gift, and I’m so grateful. I started thinking about what she wrote, and the next morning I discussed it with A. And then I was convinced. So I started looking online, and this kind of thing has a name: life coaching, personal coaching, career coaching. Basically: coaching, in the non-athletic sense of the word.

And so I’m setting up my website now, something simple to start with, with four basic pages…and a new blog.

I was just telling A this morning during breakfast that this is the perfect job for me! I get to write, and I get to help people. The two things I love the most!

It just feels right. The whole job hunt didn’t: writing up my CV, applying for jobs, practicing interviews. It was a useful process, because it got me thinking about my experience and how to express it in words. And I actually got quite good at filtering through job descriptions, finding the ones I liked and customizing my CV and cover letter for each one.

The thing is, I like doing my own thing.

My goal is to finish getting the blog set up this weekend, so I can start looking for part-time, temporary work to get a bit of income rolling in as I set up my coaching program.

And…I’ve signed up for three free two-day coaching courses, as well as another two (almost free) Meetups for coaches!

So, since our oven still hasn’t been fixed, and I don’t have much along the lines of recipes to post here, I’ll probably be posting a bit more on the new (third) blog from now on. As soon as I get the first few posts up, I’ll link to it from here so you can check it out! All comments and suggestions for improvement are more than welcome!

And…one of my best friends from CA is coming to London tomorrow on a very long layover, so I get to hang out! Another friend will be here all week, too! Then I have my first course on Tuesday and Wednesday, and the second one the following weekend! Fun! Fun!

Happy! Happy!

Have a great weekend, and a fantastic week next week!!

Feel Good Friday: Gym again!

I’ve been posting very infrequently for awhile now, mostly because I’ve been feeling guilty about doing anything that’s not directly related to job hunting. Plus, our oven isn’t working. It only grills, but doesn’t bake, and we need to get it fixed. So, no new baking recipes, despite the fact that I now have access to wonderful gluten free ingredients. I didn’t even remember it was Friday until I checked out my feeds and saw the FGF posts in there, but now I’m back on schedule. I’ve been all off on the days now.

I’ve been good about exercise for years now. I’ve always been clear about how much better I feel when I work out. I have more energy, less stress, and I feel fabulous overall.

And I have a confession to make: since we started planning this whole move thing, I stopped exercising. Stress went way up. I knew exercise would help, but I was too lost in my paperwork to get myself out there and do it.

Today I visited two gyms that are within walking distance from where we live. I absolutely loved the first one and am signing up this weekend! Plus, it’s open on Sundays, which is fabulous because most gyms are closed on Sundays in Argentina, so I’m not used to being able to go then. I can’t wait!!

Have you been able to keep up your exercise schedule during major life changes? Have you kept up through the holidays? Are you looking to start a new exercise plan this year?

Happy Friday, and happy weekend!

Unrelated thought:

  • I always wondered what English muffins were called in England, or if they even existed and were just an American invention. Last week at the grocery store, I came across some. So they do exist, and guess what they’re called? Muffins. I suppose that would be common sense.
